ROCKVILLE TRAILS: OPEN SPACE ON THE HIGH RISK URBAN FRINGE IN SOLANO COUNTY

Rockville Trails, 1,574 acres of rolling grasslands and oak woodlands northeast of Fairfield, was at high risk of development until acquired by Solano Land Trust in 2011-2012. It provides nearby recreation, and is adjacent to Rockville Hills Community Park (City of Fairfield), and nearly adjacent (~ 1 mile straight line) to Vallejo Lakes (City of Vallejo) and Green Valley (easements by Land Trust of Napa County) and undeveloped lands in the southern Vaca Mountains. The land annually yields 1030 ac-ft of recharge and 840 ac-ft runoff into lower Suisun (Priority 1) and Green Valley (Priority 2) Creeks, both of which support steelhead and diverse native fishes. Vernal pools and wildflowers, including the rare Mt. Diablo fairy lantern, will benefit from managed grazing.
