Other Conservation Planning Efforts

Several other planning efforts have been completed or are underway that complement the the Conservation Lands Network. These plans include:

Baylands Ecosystem Habitat Goals.  The Baylands Goals Project, completed in 1999 by a consortium of public agencies, focused on goals for historic tidelands around San Francisco Bay.  The Conservation Lands Network geographic scope starts above the Baylands Goals boundary and extends to the outer county limits.

San Francisco Bay Area Subtidal Habitat Goals ProjectThe Subtidal Habitat Goals Project is a collaborative, regional planning effort to advance the understanding and future science-based protection and restoration of submerged habitats in San Francisco Bay.

The combination of the Baylands, Subtidal, and Upland Habitat Goals projects covers the entire Bay Area with habitat conservation plans.

Golden Lands, Golden Opportunity.  A collaborative project of the Bay Area Open Space Council and Greenbelt Alliance, this report identifies the region's  watersheds, forests, farms, parks, and ridges that provide invaluable benefits to our communities.  The report also details key actions needed to ensure that these lands are protected and benefit all Californians.

FOCUSFOCUS is a regional development and conservation strategy that promotes a more compact land use pattern for the Bay Area. It unites the efforts of the Association of Bay Area Governments, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and Bay Conservation Development Commission into a single program that links land use and transportation by encouraging the development of complete, livable communities in areas served by transit, and promotes conservation of the region’s most significant resource lands - some of which are included in the Conservation Lands Network.

Plan Bay Area.  Building on the work of FOCUS, Plan Bay Area is also a joint project of the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in partnership with the Bay Area’s other two regional government agencies, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), and the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC).  All four agencies are collaborating at an unprecedented level to produce a more integrated land-use/transportation plan in collaboration with Bay Area counties and cities.

Conservation Blueprint for Santa Cruz County.  The Conservation Blueprint is the Land Trust of Santa Cruz's assessment of the natural health of Santa Cruz County.  The plan includes recommendations for conserving biodiversity, water, working lands, recreational opportunities, and healthy communities.  The Conservation Lands Network Explorer includes Santa Cruz County and the Conservation Blueprint results.
